H. E. Sheikh Nahayan
Mabarak Al-Nahayan
Under the leadership and guidance of His Highness the President, Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al-Nahayan, the United Arab Emirates strives for competitive advantage in the global marketplace. To succeed, we must increase the participation of our private sector in national development, and in turn, in the global economy. Our entrepreneurs must learn how to work, and compete, effectively on the Global stage. They must be prepared to play an important role in shaping our economic future.

It is, therefore, my great pleasure to acknowledge the Second Biennial HCT-MIT Global Entrepreneurship Conference. The Conference heralds the second of many joint collaborative projects between the Higher Colleges of Technology/CERT and the MIT Entrepreneurship Center.

The two institutions started working closely together to bring world class expertise, skills and knowledge to the UAE and the Gulf region through many different programs – one being this Global conference. The MIT Sloan School is also organizing its second ever Executive Education Program in Dubai from 17th – 19th September, 2006. The program on "Managing Global Enterprises and Projects in a Rapidly Flattening World" will be offered to senior, top level leaders in industry and academia. It brings MIT's leading authorities, including Prof. Don Lessard, Prof. Duncan Simester, and Prof. SP Kothari to the UAE to share their knowledge, experience and expertise.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly, we are actively collaborating with distinguished professors from leading entrepreneurial institutions around the world in establishing various programs, to cater to the emerging strategic needs of economic diversification, high value job creation and increased global competitiveness in the UAE and the Region.
I welcome all the participants to the conference. I hope that all of you benefit from the presentations, discussions, and ideas that will be presented and debated over the next two days. Remember, the real value of your activities will come when entrepreneurship becomes a key driver behind a vibrant, dynamic, and strong national economy.

I have high hopes that this conference will solidify our commitment to build and strengthen our resolve to take advantage of our special place in the world economy to achieve sustained economic growth. My best wishes to all of you for successful and productive sessions.
